Programming Yourself for Success

Your mission statement is always written in the present tense, as though you have already become the person that you have described. It is always positive rather than negative. And it is always personal.

Program Yourself Correctly
Your subconscious mind can only accept your mission statement as a set of commands when you phrase it in the present, positive and personal tenses. "I am an exceptional salesperson," is a perfect example. After every sales call, you should quickly reread your mission statement and ask yourself if your recent behavior was more like the person you want to be, or less? As a top sales performer, you are always comparing your sales activities against a high standard and adjusting your activities upward. You're continually striving to be better. Every day in every way, you are deliberately working to become more like the ideal person you have envisioned.

Determine Your Mission Statement
Your goal is that, a year from today, when one of your customers has lunch with one of your prospects, and your prospect asks your customer to describe you in detail as a salesperson, your customer will recite your business mission statement voluntarily. The way you have treated your customer will have been so exemplary that your customer will describe you in the most glowing of terms.

Compare Yourself Against Yourself
Once you have developed a mission statement like this, you can read it, review it, edit it, and upgrade it regularly. You can add additional qualities to it and more clearly define the qualities you've already listed. It becomes your personal credo, your philosophy of life, your statement of beliefs and a guide to your behavior in all your interactions with others. Each day, you can evaluate your behaviors and compare them against the standard that you have set in this statement.

Shape Your Own Personality
Over time, a remarkable thing will happen. Teguran seorang student

Semalam semasa tengah tanda kertas, saya jumpa mesej kritikan yang sangat tak profesional daripada seorang student. Kesian kerana bunyinya yang agak peribadi. Pelajar daripada section Kejuruteraan Electrik ini tidak berpuas hati kerana kurang latihan tutorial yang diberikan dalam kelas lantas terus menyalahkan lecturer (saya) atas kegagalan dan kemalasannya.

Setahu saya, di dalam nota yang saya berikan, terdapat begitu banyak soalan latihan tutorial tapi sepanjang semester ini, pelajar ini langsung tak pernah jumpa saya untuk bertanya saya tentang soalan yang telah dia buat malah beliau tak pernah langsung bertanya semasa di dalam kelas. Pada hal saya sering bertanya kepada para pelajar, "Ada apa yang tak faham ke?" atau "Ada apa2 soalan?".

Jadi apakah kesimpulan yang boleh dibuat terhadap pelajar seperti ini? Ini kesimpulan saya; pelajar ini:
1) Sudah biasa spoonfeed (sudah tentu sudah terbiasa daripada sekolah).
2) Tak independent atau tak pandai berdikari. Semuanya nak didepan mata.
3) Seorang yang suka tunggu dan lihat. Tidak ada inisiatif (memulakan dahulu sesuatu perkara) sebelum pensyarah mulakan. Ini adalah sikap seorang pengemis dan rendah harga diri.
4) Manja - oh maaf, saya belum pernah jumpa orang manja yang berjaya dalam hidup kecuali kalau dia berjaya dengan cara yang kejam!
5) Masalah komunikasi - tak pandai menegur dengan cara yang bijaksana jadi terpaksalah dia menegur dengan cara yang tak matang.
6) Terlalu banyak ciri2 negetif dalam diri..
7) IQ mungkin ada. Tapi EQ zero..

Kepada semua pelajar, kalau nak menegur orang, tolong tegur dengan cara yang betul. Cakap dengan penuh hikmah dan sopan santun; insya Allah orang lain akan terima pandangan anda. Ingatlah satu perkara. Orang lain tak akan kagum dengan kita hanya kerana kita tinggi ilmu, tapi mereka akan mengkagumi kita jika kita punyai personaliti yang matang dan pandai menghormati orang lain...
